2003
marks Christopher Priest's 25th year in the funnybook game. The
first African American editor to work in mainstream comics
(Marvel 1978, DC 1990), and the first African American assigned
to write a monthly series (The Falcon Limited Series,
1984, Power Man & Iron Fist, 1985), Priest has, over the
years, worked on just about everything there is to work on at
Marvel and DC. As editor of Marvel's Spider-Man franchise in the
early 80's, Priest helped launch the careers of major industry
talent including Joe Quesada, Peter David, Marc Silvestri, Kyle
Baker, Mark Beachum and many others. Mentored by industry
legends Larry Hama, Denny O'Neil and Jim Shooter, Priest is a
combustible and ethnically confused individual whose mania found
expression in critically acclaimed runs on Power Man & Iron
Fist, The Ray, Steel, Quantum & Woody, and Solar: Hell On
Earth. Priest's revival of the industry's first black
super-hero, Black Panther, drew critical acclaim from
Entertainment Weekly, The Village Voice, and other
mainstream press.
Priest currently resides in Colorado Springs, where he serves as
a Baptist minister while continuing to develop projects for
Marvel and DC as well as performing music production on Gospel
and R&B projects.
